This collection consists of John E. Lane's short memoir about his experiences as a private in the United States Marine Corps beginning in June of 1944.

In this narrative, John S. Hurst describes his time in the U. S. Army from his induction in July of 1944 to his discharge in August of 1945. He mentions his service replenishing ammunition during the Battle of the Bulge and details many of his struggles, including the frostbite and pneumonia that finally sent him home.
